Risk Assessment
Blue Planet Aquarium endeavour to provide the safest possible environment during your visit. However, children will remain the responsibility of accompanying teachers, parents or group leaders and should be accompanied at all times. Prior to your visit please make group members aware of the following information:
In the General Exhibition Area Visitors are advised:
- Not to run.
- To wash hands after touching the touch pool exhibits.
- To refrain from eating or drinking.
- To refrain from smoking in all areas - fire alarms are fitted throughout.
- To refrain from putting fingers (or any other body parts) into open tanks.
- To be aware of wet floors.
- To be aware of any stairs, ramps and raised areas.
- To be aware of areas of reduced lighting.
- To be aware of doors closing on fingers.
- To avoid clearly marked unauthorised areas.
- To be aware of low hazards e.g. handrails.
In the Underwater Safari, Visitors are advised:
- To take care mounting and dismounting the moving walkway.
- To follow the direction of moving walkway.
- That Pushchairs and wheelchairs are to stay on the carpeted area whenever possible.
- Not to run.
- Not to sit or lie down on the moving walkway.
- To keep hands and fingers away from edge of moving walkway.
- To refrain from eating or drinking.
In the classroom areas, visitors are advised:
- To be aware of any living specimens in the room.
- To refrain from eating or drinking.
- To be aware of projector stands which may cause tripping hazard.
- To seek advice from your Presenter in case of emergency.
- To be aware of Fire Exits in room.
- To take care when doing activities/role play.
- To listen to and follow instructions given by Presenter/Teacher.
In the event of a Fire
- A loud alarm will sound.
- All Fire Escapes are clearly marked, and Blue Planet staff will guide you out of the nearest Fire Exit
- Visitors are asked not to return to vehicles in the car park, but to gather at the Fire Assembly Point located under the white canopy at the front of the building.
- All members of groups should be accounted for, and any missing parties reported to the Fire Marshall.
First Aid
- Blue Planet Aquarium has Staff on First Aid Duty every day and a designated First Aid Room.
- If First Aid is required, please inform the nearest member of staff or report to Reception.
- Teachers/parents/group leaders are required to accompany group members to the First Aid Room.
- An accident form must be completed.
This list is not exhaustive, and Blue Planet Aquarium does not accept liability for any omissions. If you find a hazard that you think should be addressed, please do not hesitate to contact the nearest member of staff.
